But whenever you go into a town and they do not receive and accept and welcome you, go out into its streets and say, 11 Even the dust of your town that clings to our feet we are wiping off against you; yet know and understand this: the kingdom of God has come near you. I tell you, it shall be more tolerable in that day for Sodom than for that town. 13 Woe to you, Chorazin! Woe to you, Bethsaida! For if the mighty miracles performed in you had been performed in Tyre and Sidon, they would have repented long ago, sitting in sackcloth and ashes. 14 However, it shall be more tolerable in the judgment for Tyre and Sidon than for you. 15 And you, Capernaum, will you be exalted unto heaven? You shall be brought down to Hades (the regions of the dead).
Contemplation
It is so important for us to follow the leading of the Lord any day and anytime. If we are serious about being used by the Lord, we must be ready to hear and follow His leading. Sometimes such leading may not look reasonable, but amazing things will always bring great glory unto the Lord. The word of the Lord in verse 10 opens our hearts to sense that in some places, the gospel will not be received and that will become a sign that the Lord is saying to us, keep moving to the next place.
This is what the word of the Lord says right there,
“But whenever you go into a town and they do not receive and accept and welcome you, go out into its streets and say,
11 Even the dust of your town that clings to our feet we are wiping off against you; yet know and understand this: the kingdom of God has come near you.”
It is very important for us to take the instructions of the Lord really serious. If the people do not receive you, it is so important for you to let them know that even the very dust of the place will become a witness against them, that the Kingdom of the Lord came to them and their decision is clearly recorded.
The word of the Lord from verse 12 to 15 bears this record as touching their conduct and the following became the words decreed against such places.
“I tell you, it shall be more tolerable in that day for Sodom than for that town.
You shall be brought down to Hades (the regions of the dead).”
It is so unfortunate that these places in their stubbornness and foolish pride decided to face the judgment against them. It is very dangerous for us to allow our selfish pride to lead us into everlasting judgment.
Practical issues
Beloved, now that we still have life, let us cry to the Lord who is merciful and who knows, our sins may be blotted out. May the Lord pour His grace upon us in Jesus mighty name. Amen.
