Hurry and go up to my father and tell him, Your son Joseph says this to you: God has put me in charge of all Egypt. Come down to me; do not delay. You will live in the land of Goshen, and you will be close to me—you and your children and your grandchildren, your flocks, your herds, and all you have. And there I will sustain and provide for you, so that you and your household and all that are yours may not come to poverty and want, for there are yet five [more] years of [the scarcity, hunger, and starvation of] famine.
Contemplation
Without doubt, the grace of the Lord has made a great difference in the life of Joseph and it became an answer against satanic agenda that would have lead to painful hardship for Jacob and his household, but the Lord in His mercy, went ahead of them to frustrate the camp of darkness. Beloved, if the Lord will have to wait for us to cry out before He intervenes for us, we would have suffered for long or even cut off before our prayer will be heard. There are evil things planned against us, but because we know nothing about it, the Lord would often frustrate them. If Jacob had continued to buy food from Egypt without any hindrance from Joseph, they would have run out of money like the children of Egypt did and a dangerous thing would have happened. But the mercies of the Lord went ahead of them to prepare a glorious intervention. From verse 9 to 11, Joseph called out to them to act on this as soon as they can. He said,
“Hurry and go up to my father and tell him, Your son Joseph says this to you: God has put me in charge of all Egypt. Come down to me; do not delay.”
It becomes a serious call that Joseph emphasized this to his father. He was very careful to say this without any waste of time “Come down to me; do not delay.” There are some who have stayed a little longer in some unfortunate situations and that became the reason for their trouble. But because Joseph knew that there will be five more years of difficulties all over the world, he made a glorious plan for his father and his household. In verse 10 he said to them,
“You will live in the land of Goshen, and you will be close to me—you and your children and your grandchildren, your flocks, your herds, and all you have.”
He knew the period will be harsh but by the grace of God, this will not be close to his house, so he made plans for his father and the household to be close to him. He knows once this is in place, in verse 11 he said,
“And there I will sustain and provide for you, so that you and your household and all that are yours may not come to poverty and want, for there are yet five [more] years of [the scarcity, hunger, and starvation of] famine.”
The Lord hard spoken of the tough times to come and Joseph decided that this will not be the reason any of his extended family members will suffer from poverty and want. When we walk with the Lord, He takes care of us and this is the reason why we must keep our walk with God intact. The Lord our God has a great plan for us and we must be careful to maintain our walk with Him.
Practical issues
There may be year of hardship and unbearable difficulties, but if we are careful to follow the leading of the Lord for our lives, the Lord will make our paths well guided. Keep your eyes always on the Lord. Shalom!
