Isaiah 40:22-25 · AMPC

It is God Who sits above the circle (the horizon) of the earth, and its inhabitants are like grasshoppers; it is He Who stretches out the heavens like [gauze] curtains and spreads them out like a tent to dwell in, Who brings dignitaries to nothing, Who makes the judges and rulers of the earth as chaos (emptiness, falsity, and futility). Yes, these men are scarcely planted, scarcely are they sown, scarcely does their stock take root in the earth, when [the Lord] blows upon them and they wither, and the whirlwind or tempest takes them away like stubble. To whom then will you liken Me, that I should be equal to him? says the Holy One.

Contemplation

The Lord our God is indeed worthy to be praised. The Lord is God forever and He has given us the privilege to walk in the glory of His presence in amazing ways. This is one of the amazing reasons why the scripture in verse 22 revealed to us that

“It is God Who sits above the circle (the horizon) of the earth, and its inhabitants are like grasshoppers; it is He Who stretches out the heavens like [gauze] curtains and spreads them out like a tent to dwell in,”

What a mighty God we serve! Without doubt, there is just no one like the Lord our God. He continually reigns in heaven and on earth His majesty and power is mightily felt. To the Lord our God be all the praise and the glory.

In verse 23, the Lord our God is the one acknowledged as the mighty one,

“Who brings dignitaries to nothing, Who makes the judges and rulers of the earth as chaos (emptiness, falsity, and futility).”

If the Lord our God decides to bring dignitaries to nothing, then there is no hope for any who decide to be against Him or has chosen to walk foolishly with all the opportunities He has given us to live for His praise and glory.

The word of the Lord went on to say in verse 24,

“Yes, these men are scarcely planted, scarcely are they sown, scarcely does their stock take root in the earth, when [the Lord] blows upon them and they wither, and the whirlwind or tempest takes them away like stubble.”

When one has scarcely been established by the mighty hand of the Lord, it is so unfortunate that one would take a decision that would make this soul to be blown away by the whirlwind of the Lord. There is a need for each soul to be careful and sensitive in life.

Beloved, the word of the Lord has asked us some serious questions and without doubt there is a great need for us to be very careful as we live each day. That is why in verse 25 there is a great need for us to be sensitive as we consider the questions,

“To whom then will you liken Me, that I should be equal to him? says the Holy One.”

The Lord our God is Lord God Almighty, there is no one that we can compare Him with and it is a privilege for us to live to glorify His name.

Practical issues

Beloved, let’s be very sensitive as we are given the opportunity to bring glory to His name. Serve the Lord with gladness and in due season He will answer us and glorify His name. Shalom!
