Isaiah 40:14-17 · AMPC

With whom did He take counsel, that instruction might be given Him? Who taught Him the path of justice and taught Him knowledge and showed Him the way of understanding? Behold, the nations are like a drop from a bucket and are counted as small dust on the scales; behold, He takes up the isles like a very little thing. 16 And all Lebanon’s [forests] cannot supply sufficient fuel, nor all its wild beasts furnish victims enough to burn sacrifices [worthy of the Lord]. All the nations are as nothing before Him; they are regarded by Him as less than nothing and emptiness (waste, futility, and worthlessness).

Receive the word

Contemplation

The Lord God Almighty is worthy of the glory, honor and admiration. There is none like the Lord God of Host in all the heavens and the earth. The word of the Lord in Isaiah chapter 40 verse 13 says,

“Who has directed the Spirit of the Lord, or as His counselor has taught Him?”

It is so obvious that there is none worthy to come close to offer counsel to the Spirit of the living God without the help of the Lord. For no other has the divine insight to offer counsel from the Lord God without divine help.

The word of the Lord went further to ask in verse 14,

“With whom did He take counsel, that instruction might be given Him? Who taught Him the path of justice and taught Him knowledge and showed Him the way of understanding?”

When it comes to receiving clear answers that will guide us into the uncovering of the word, it will become obvious this is only by the grace of the Lord. For it is the Lord who leads His people in the path of justice, knowledge and showed them the way of understanding.

In verse 15 the Spirit of the Lord went on to say in verse,

“Behold, the nations are like a drop from a bucket and are counted as small dust on the scales; behold, He takes up the isles like a very little thing.

16 And all Lebanon’s [forests] cannot supply sufficient fuel, nor all its wild beasts furnish victims enough to burn sacrifices [worthy of the Lord].”

If we happen to have done something, it will become obvious that it is by the grace of the Lord we began to see the amazing results. The explanation given in verse 15 and 16 gives clear details on the way things fall in place by the help of the Lord. Read the verses again and come to understand the message given.

In verse 17 the Lord saw the need to say this,

“All the nations are as nothing before Him; they are regarded by Him as less than nothing and emptiness (waste, futility, and worthlessness).”

This tells us that the Lord our God is indeed God Almighty and the fact we are considered as something great is nothing but the grace of God. For before the Lord all the nations are nothing before Him. Until the Lord decides to lift us to be something, the whole world is less than nothing. What a great privilege for us to be counted as something.

Practical issues

It is a great opportunity for us to be counted to be something before the Almighty God. He is indeed God and we must be careful to give Him all the praise. Shalom!
