So they went up out of Egypt and came into the land of Canaan to Jacob their father, And they said to him, Joseph is still alive! And he is governor over all the land of Egypt! And Jacob’s heart began to stop beating and [he almost] fainted, for he did not believe them. But when they told him all the words of Joseph which he had said to them, and when he saw the wagons which Joseph had sent to carry him, the spirit of Jacob their father revived [and warmth and life returned]. 28 And Israel said, It is enough! Joseph my son is still alive. I will go and see him before I die.
Contemplation
The Lord our God is indeed worthy to be praised from one generation to generation. When we think of all that the enemy has done and how the Lord our God has frustrated the evil plans, words are just not enough to express our gratitude. What a mighty and glorious God we serve. In verse 25, the word of the Lord gave record of the beautiful news which they went out with, it says,
“So they went up out of Egypt and came into the land of Canaan to Jacob their father,”
When the sons of Jacob left home, they were uncertain about what will unfold in Egypt, but after all that happened with Joseph, they returned home with unspeakable joy.
When something becomes a glorious reality, sometimes it seems too good in the eyes of some that it look as though what they are hearing is an expensive joke. The word of the Lord in verse 26 seems to be unreal,
“And they said to him, Joseph is still alive! And he is governor over all the land of Egypt! And Jacob’s heart began to stop beating and [he almost] fainted, for he did not believe them.”
Beloved, remember that the sons of Jacob were the ones who brought the former news about the death of Joseph before, but right now, when they came with the authentic news to their father, his heart began to stop beating. This means so much uncertainty took over their souls, but the truth when carefully applied, makes a glorious difference. From verses 27 and 28, the word of the Lord says,
“But when they told him all the words of Joseph which he had said to them, and when he saw the wagons which Joseph had sent to carry him, the spirit of Jacob their father revived [and warmth and life returned].
28 And Israel said, It is enough! Joseph my son is still alive. I will go and see him before I die.”
Hallelujah! After many years of trouble and pain, for the first time in his life, Jacob’s hope was renewed and with the news from Joseph and “… the wagons which Joseph had sent to carry him, the Bible says, the spirit of Jacob was revived. In other words, for the first time after many years, his expectation was renewed and he became so excited that his son Joseph is still alive. Beloved, this story was like the resurrection from dead of Joseph and with great joy his father rejoiced and became so excited to see him. When the truth reveals and a beautiful story takes over the ugly one that was there before, it becomes so exciting to tell the story again and again. This is indeed the interesting and beautiful story of Jacob and Joseph unfolding. What a glorious God we serve.
Practical issues
Beloved, there is much more than a beautiful story unfolding in the word of the Lord, because this has gone a long way to prepare for us a glorious pattern that will open unto us the beauty of the Lord. Beloved, let the Lord have His way in your life. Shalom!
