Isaiah 40:9-13 · AMPC

O you who bring good tidings to Zion, get up to the high mountain. O you who bring good tidings to Jerusalem, lift up your voice with strength, lift it up, be not afraid; say to the cities of Judah, Behold your God! Behold, the Lord God will come with might, and His arm will rule for Him. Behold, His reward is with Him, and His recompense before Him. He will feed His flock like a shepherd: He will gather the lambs in His arm, He will carry them in His bosom and will gently lead those that have their young. Who has measured the waters in the hollow of his hand, marked off the heavens with a [nine-inch] span, enclosed the dust of the earth in a measure, and weighed the mountains in scales and the hills in a balance? 13 Who has directed the Spirit of the Lord, or as His counselor has taught Him?

Contemplation

It is a great opportunity for us to walk with the Lord each day and to bring great glory to His name. The Lord does not really need us to show how important we are to accomplish an assignment, we are only given the opportunity to bring glory to the Lord. This is a glorious opportunity we must not toil with, for without us, the Lord is able to make use of someone else. When we have an opportunity to serve the Lord’s purpose, we should count it as a great blessing. For everyone of us given the privilege to serve there is at least one other person who is praying, waiting for the opportunity to serve with great joy. Whatever you are doing today, remember that there is at least one person who will do even more than what you are doing with lots of gratitude everyday. Therefore, when you have the opportunity to do this work, do it with all your might.

In the word of the Lord given to us from Isaiah chapter 40 from verse 9, we were told,

“O you who bring good tidings to Zion, get up to the high mountain. O you who bring good tidings to Jerusalem, lift up your voice with strength, lift it up, be not afraid; say to the cities of Judah, Behold your God!”

There is a place where the glory of the Lord will be made manifest like never before. The Spirit of the Lord expects each one of us to rise to the high mountain of the Lord to make this announcement. If you try to make this announcement far below the mountain, the impact will not be felt as expected. So the word of the Lord says, “… lift up your voice with strength, lift it up, be not afraid;” for the Lord our God is the one with you and He will do amazing things as you rejoice to bring the Lord the glory due unto His name.

Take note of what the Lord says in verse 10 again,

“Behold, the Lord God will come with might, and His arm will rule for Him. Behold, His reward is with Him, and His recompense before Him.”

It is amazing for us to be given the privilege to come before the Lord who is known with might and the Lord with His arm ruling for Him. What a mighty God we serve? Without doubt, the reward of the Lord is with Him. The Spirit of the Lord went on to say in verse 11,

“He will feed His flock like a shepherd: He will gather the lambs in His arm, He will carry them in His bosom and will gently lead those that have their young.”

It is a glorious opportunity for us to know what it means for the flock of the shepherd to encounter the favor of the Lord. This is were we have come to realize what it means for the Lord to gather the lambs in His arms. The Lord is far ready to take good care of them and will gently lead everyone who have their young like no other can.

In verse 12 and 13, the Lord made this declaration,

“Who has measured the waters in the hollow of his hand, marked off the heavens with a [nine-inch] span, enclosed the dust of the earth in a measure, and weighed the mountains in scales and the hills in a balance?

13 Who has directed the Spirit of the Lord, or as His counselor has taught Him?”

The Lord our God has given us great insight about the measurement of the land and the heavens in amazing ways but it is the Spirit of the Lord that gives greater understanding. Let the Lord lead us into His plan and without doubt the glory will be made manifest.

Practical issues

The Lord our God is mightily at work in the life of those who live to the glorify of His name. There are dimensions of opportunity waiting to magnify His name. Let the Lord guide you. Shalom!
